Harlow Socialist History and Politics Group - call out for speakers on "Socialist perspectives on global migration"

Share
Our group meets every month on a Saturday afternoon in the Archive Room at Harlow Museum, Muskham Road, CM20 2LF (Tel: 01279 454959) to discuss readings and topics nominated by our members.   Everyone is welcome.

Our next few meetings will focus on the theme of SOCIALIST PERSPECTIVES ON GLOBAL MIGRATION AND POPULAR REACTION.
October 26 - November 30 - December 14 - January 18 - February 22 - March 29.

We would like to invite contributions from IWCE members in the way of suggestions, offers to speak, or references to suitable readings etc.
One session already being planned will focus on the history of anti-fascist protest, and we have had an offer from Max Levitas to come and give his critical views on modern forms of protest, and we are in the process of inviting others from UAF and the anti-fascist network.  This will be a public meeting jointly organised with Harlow Trades Council.  Details will be posted later.

Members also want to consider broad themes of socialist explanation for migratory flow and its economic drivers; the history of legislation in its political, economic and social context e.g. the extent to which the 'rivers of blood' speech marked a turning point in race relations; the rise of the Right across Europe; and the complicated relationships between nationalism, identity and class.
